I came to know Buffy Sainte-Marie when I was fourteen years old. I was interested in folk music. I was very captivated by her unique voice and I did come to learn about the plight of Native American Indians. I do have all of her albums. I found that she became more interesting when she left her label Vanguard. Her mid-70s albums are great but there was a long gap until she returned in the early 90s with "Coincidences and Other Likely Stories'. Every new Buffy Sainte-Marie album is an event and "Power in the Blood" is no exception! This is a brilliant album and she includes four songs from past albums but has truly reinvented them. Sainte-Marie is in very fine voice and she rocks, delivers heartfelt ballads and, what I love most of all, is the Native American sound on most of the songs! Even in an electronic manner, the pulse of the beat is like the beating of drums at a pow wow. I have played this album three times in a row and it is a work of art. Yes, Buffy Sainte-Marie is an activist and several songs, "The Uranium War', address important issues. They are excellent songs. I fully agree with the other reviewers that if you think you know Buffy Sainte-Marie, you really don't. She has evolved in her music. Her album prior to this one, "Running For the Drum", is amazing and so is "Power in the Blood". I find her more relevant than ever and she knows how to use her voice magnificently. If you only know her from her Vanguard albums, meet her and find that she is very different artist with a new sound. I cannot recommend this captivating album highly enough. It is brilliant!!!
