1946. The Old Blood. The year is 1946 and the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. In an effort to turn the tide in the allies' favor, B.J. Blazkowicz must embark on an epic, two-part mission deep within Bavaria... Part one of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood - Rudi Jager and the Den of Wolves - pits BJ Blazkowicz against a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead's compound. In part two - The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs - our hero's search for the coordinates leads him to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is old-school, in that you must find health-packs to stay alive. It also doesn't coddle you with auto-aiming. You must find the enemies and aim at them. That said, in more modern fashion, your health level auto-regenerates to the next higher 20%, so if your health is at 100%, and you get hit and the health goes down to say 82%, if you stay out of danger, your health will go up to 100% again. But if the health goes down to 80% or less, it won't recover to 100%. This health model is a lot like the health model of Far Cry 2, and it works great. The environments you must fight in are gorgeous--lovingly constructed. Libraries, wine-cellars, laboratories, a theatre in the round, caverns, caves, bridges, cable cars, etc. The sound is fantastic. Your guns sound very different when fired outside. When I finally made it outside, it really *felt* to me that I was outside. While the graphics aren't hyper-realistic in terms of dynamic lighting, they still look really, really good. The voice acting and facial animation is top-notch. The AI is clever, therefore satisfying to defeat. The movement of non-player characters seems very natural. This is stuff we might take for granted, today, but it's actually quite an achievement. There's motivation to play it stealthy in most situations, but the choice is yours. If you play stealthy, you can kill "commanders" which are men who might sound the "alarm" which will cause more bad guys to descend upon you. If you kill the commanders, then reinforcements will not come to haunt you once you are discovered. But if you don't kill the commanders, you still have a chance at success on the level, so you won't find yourself giving up and trying again, unless you are really committed to being stealthy. The control scheme is flawless. When you run, you run FAST. Choosing weapons is very easy. Toggling between your last two weapons is on TRIANGLE.Perhaps the only annoyance is that you must press SQUARE to pick things up, like ammo and health. But this makes sense in that you shouldn't always pick things up that you encounter. For instance, if you pick up a 40% health pack, it will "overcharge" you (and then your health will slowly discharge back to 100%). If you pick up the health too soon, you could end up wasting it. So I don't mind that I have to press SQUARE to pick stuff up.I've heard The New Order is even better. That's great! But The Old Blood is awesome. If you like tactical single-player shooters in generally (but not exclusively) indoor environments The Old Blood is for you.SPOILERS for Wolfenstein: The New Order incoming:For those who may not remember, The Old Blood is a prequel to The New Order, arguably the best first person shooter I've played since Bioshock Infinite. If you've played The New Order, then you know what to expect gameplay-wise. Solid mechanics, an diverse weapon wheel with dual-wielding, and a perk-style skill tree that rewards you for playing the way you want all make up for a mechanically fantastic game. However, as would be expected in a $20 spinoff, some of the magic has been lost in translation. For example, while Castle Wolfenstein and the villages seen afterwards are memorable in their own right, they pale in comparison to some of the more over-the-top levels of New Order. While it may seem unfair, there is no moment in Old Blood like finding out you're going to shoot Nazis on the moon in New Order. Similarly, the brilliant setting and sci-fi possibilities given by New Order's premise (what if the Nazis won?) is nowhere to be seen, and the low-tech nature of it all means losing some uniqueness. At the same time though, the gameplay remains solid as always, the campaign is lengthy enough without overstaying its welcome (about 8 hours on hard/"hurt me plenty" difficulty), and the story is still great with characters that feel memorable despite having little on-screen time. Just expect to spend a lot of time on the final boss.Wolfenstein: The New Order was quite a surprise to me. I'm usually not into alternate history. Now, I understand Wolfenstein IS alternate history in a sense, but it has always taken place during World War II. But The New Order was so much fun I didn't even care that it was in the 60's of Nazi occupied USA. Well, here comes The Old Blood, which is just like Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Evil Nazi's meddling with ancient relics of the past and fudging everything up because that's what Nazi's do best. Well, it's up to B.J. to fix things. And just in case you were wondering, this game is much more supernatural than The New Order, much like it's predecessors were (NO SPOILERS!). The thing that Wolfenstein does best is it makes shooting Nazi's fun as hell. I really couldn't care less where I am or what I'm doing, the gunplay is absolutely stellar. I don't need a good story, and this isn't one, but it's hokey and campy and fun. I don't need good characters but they're actually here, and the voice acting and emotion is exceptional, more than expected. I like The Old Blood 100% better than The New Order, not because it's mechanically different, but because it's takes the series back to a supernatural World War II. It's the same game The New Order is, but with better textures, a nostalgic story and feel, and a much moodier and atmospheric theme. From Nazi prisons ruled by a crazy warden and his dogs, to Castle Wolfenstein itself, to defiled churches and dig sites.... it's all here. I beat the game in about 10 hours taking my time and dying a bunch, but this is exactly half as big as The New Order. And at $20 it is a STEAL.北米版注文したのにスペイン語のもの届いた!気をつけてください!指定した日付に好評。よく使用します。次回も利用したいと思います。
